It’s taken a few months to get our permits through the city and even though we aren’t changing the footprint or changing any exterior walls, it’s taken 3 months to get the permit to start demolition.
I’ve been traveling quite a bit and have been away for a few weeks and mentally separated from this renovation. However, I drove up to the house today and found proof that the demolition had started:
Our goals with the renovation were to pull back all the layers, all the crazy additions, and return it to the simple A-Frame it was meant to be. Now with the demolition starting, you can feel a difference when walking into the house.
As with any metamorphosis, pulling away the layers to bring something to it’s core, can be both painful and therapeutic. With this renovation, our goals are to respect the core of the house while allowing it to meet our needs as well as all the people who will live here in the future.
As we begin this demolition, the house is opening up and we are finding it’s soul.
